What is the Pi Cycle Top indicator?
The Pi Cycle Top indicator, created by analyst Philip Swift, compares two moving averages of Bitcoin's price: the 111-day average and twice the 350-day average. The "top signal" fires when the 111-day average crosses above 2× the 350-day average. The name comes from the ratio of 350 to 111, which is about 3.15, close to pi.
How SellSignal calculates it
SellSignal computes the ratio 111-day average ÷ (2 × 350-day average) from daily closes and shows it as a percentage of the trigger. At 100% or above, the signal has fired. It is warm at 85% and hot at 100%. For the composite score, heat is 0 at 50% and 100 at 100%. Like the other five indicators, it carries one sixth of the overall score.
As of 2026-10-15, the 111-day average is $72,240 and the trigger level is $154,214, so the indicator reads 47% of trigger (status: cool).
When it fired before
| Upward cross | BTC close | Context |
|---|---|---|
| 2013-04-07 | $144 | Early: price later closed as high as $1,137 |
| 2013-12-07 | $800 | Two days after the 2013 peak close ($1,137, Dec 5), price already ~30% lower |
| 2017-12-17 | $19,280 | The day of the 2017 peak close |
| 2021-04-13 | $59,835 | Seven months before the Nov 2021 closing high ($67,562), which was 13% higher |

In that data, no upward cross occurred during the 2024-26 cycle: the ratio's highest reading in that window was 73.6% of the trigger, and it was 56.9% at the October 2025 closing high.
Limits and caveats
- Four data points. Four crosses are too few to call this reliable, and the first one came early.
- Timing varies. Two crosses landed at or just after the closing high, one came months early, and the latest cycle never triggered it.
- Backward-looking. Both averages are built from past prices, so the signal can only confirm what price has already done.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Pi Cycle Top indicator?
It is a signal that fires when Bitcoin's 111-day moving average crosses above twice its 350-day moving average. It was created by Philip Swift.

As of 2026-10-15, SellSignal shows it at 47% of trigger, so it has not fired. The last upward cross in the loaded data was 2021-04-13.
How accurate is the Pi Cycle Top?
In the data SellSignal uses, it crossed up in April 2013, December 2013, December 2017 and April 2021, with timing ranging from months early to two days after the closing high. It did not cross in the most recent cycle. Four events are too few to judge accuracy.
Why is it called Pi Cycle?
350 divided by 111 is roughly 3.15, which is close to pi, so the indicator took its name from that ratio.
